NEC Aerospace Systems, Ltd. is a member of the NEC Group and a company specializing in system and software development for the fields of aviation, space applications, and national security.

Through our work in these areas, we help support the delivery of safe, reliable services. We have a strong commitment to quality and reliability, and work closely with customers to address requirements and operational needs.

Over many years, we have built expertise in technologies such as sensors, networks, and remote sensing, as well as in information and communication technology (ICT). Building on these capabilities, we are strengthening our work in artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Quality and technology are central to our culture, and we remain committed to contributing to dependable services that benefit society.

Our Business Overview

NEC Aerospace Systems, Ltd. provides solutions in three main areas: aviation, space utilization, and national security. Building on decades of experience and strong technical capabilities, we support the planning, development, and operation of systems that underpin essential services. Through a continued commitment to quality and reliability, we work with customers to address practical requirements and deliver dependable outcomes.

Aviation Systems

Aviation Business Image

In our aviation-related business, growing demand for air travel has led to congestion at major airports and along air routes. In this environment, there is an increasing need for systems that support safe and efficient flight operations.
Because these systems serve as critical public infrastructure, their stable operation and high reliability are important, given the potential impact that failures or downtime could have on society.

Leveraging the technologies and operational know-how we have built over many years, we work on a range of solutions that support aviation infrastructure. These include the development of sensor data processing equipment for air traffic situational awareness, the development of air traffic control systems, and the provision of services related to navigation support using satellite positioning. Through these efforts, and in collaboration with NEC, we contribute to the safety, stable operation, and efficiency of aviation infrastructure.
Examples of our work include sensor data processing equipment for air traffic situational awareness, air traffic control systems, and initiatives related to navigation support using satellite positioning.

Space Systems

Space Utilization Business Image

As the use of space continues to expand globally, NEC Aerospace Systems works as part of the NEC Group on projects led by JAXA and other space-related and public-sector organizations. We develop software and systems that support space missions and their operations. Our work includes the development of onboard satellite software; control, data processing, and analysis systems that support the operation of deep-space probes and Earth-observation satellites; and control systems for ground stations that communicate with satellites and other spacecraft.

Space development continues to evolve through the introduction of new technologies and ongoing research and development. Its applications are also expanding in areas that support everyday life, such as communications, disaster preparedness, and environmental and climate monitoring. With engineers who bring specialized expertise and experience, we contribute through system development and operational support to the advancement of space utilization and to the stable operation of social infrastructure. Examples of our system development include:

- Ground systems: satellite control systems; ground station control systems; orbit systems; mission planning systems; remote-sensing image processing systems; image analysis and evaluation systems; positioning systems; launch-related support equipment
- Onboard systems: onboard satellite software
- Operational support: satellite operations design; orbit design and analysis
Examples of missions we have supported include Hayabusa, Michibiki (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System), Hayabusa2, Akatsuki (Venus Climate Orbiter), Kaguya (SELENE), Shikisai (GCOM-C), and AKARI. We have also contributed to the development of ground systems that support the operation of these satellites and spacecraft.

Public Safety and Resilience

National Security Business Image

The environment surrounding safety and resilience is changing. Across emerging technology domains—including space, cyber, and communications—there is a growing need for mechanisms that enable accurate situational awareness, early detection of anomalies, and timely response. In these fields, high-reliability software capabilities that perform consistently under changing conditions and can be continuously improved are essential.

In our defense-related business, we have developed specialized software expertise over the long term in areas such as sensors, networks, and remote sensing. Building on these accumulated capabilities, advanced ICT technologies, and operational know-how, we work as part of the NEC Group to build and enhance systems that play important roles.

In line with applicable laws, regulations, and societal expectations, we will continue to contribute to people’s peace of mind by providing technologies that support the stable operation of social infrastructure and strengthen readiness and response capabilities.

Our Quality Management

NEC Aerospace Systems, Ltd. regards quality and reliability as essential values in delivering software that supports space-related initiatives and services relied on in everyday life. We operate an Aerospace Quality Management System (AQMS) based on the ISO 9001 quality management standard and aligned with JIS Q 9100, which incorporates additional requirements commonly used in the aerospace industry, to continuously improve the quality of our software products.

For development, we define processes in accordance with JIS Q 9100 and carry out activities from design and development through testing and service delivery in line with established rules and procedures. We also conduct internal audits to confirm that these procedures are properly followed and to identify opportunities for improvement. In addition, software products are subject to independent reviews by professionals holding ISTQB certifications, enhancing the objectivity of our quality checks.

As external assurance, we are certified to JIS Q 9100:2016 (certification body: Boei Kiban Seibi Kyokai (BSK), a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation in Japan; valid until February 12, 2028, renewed every three years). The certification scope covers system and software design and development, as well as related services (test support, implementation, training, maintenance, operational support, and incident response during operations) across aerospace-related and other solution areas (exclusion: clause 8.5.1.2). We are also recognized as an ISTQB PLATINUM PARTNER (No. IPP-407; valid until July 31, 2026, renewed annually). Through these frameworks, we continue to maintain and enhance quality.
